GRANDMA'S SIMPLE WAYS

To Her Love-Struck Granddaughter ...

I suggest this for a beginner,
My sweet, honeychild.
Go slow when you are young.

Knead and work the dough.
Good bread, like good lovin',
Should take time to rise.

Why you hidin' that grin?
You in a hurry, child, then
Pick up a store-bought loaf.

But that stuff is quick to ruin.
We just don't crave it, waste it,
No matter what that wrapper brags.

Go slow, and at least learn
    to make bread . . .

    You shouldn't miss the enjoyment
    In seeing things rise.

THERE WERE FLOWERS
You came in smiling like a young boy, Your hands gently cradling roses. Beautiful, fragile, ephemeral delights You compared them to me, after I had given them sufficient praise. (I must admit, I scoffed at the suggestion of such a comparison, only to treasure it now) Your next loving gift was buttercups, picked from a nearby field. I relished the idea that you would take the time to collect this bounty, and it became the actual gift for me All through the years there were flowers, yes, even blooming weeds, short-lived like their bearer, but as gifts, eternal as you have been in my memory

IN MEMORIAM - THE SACHET PACKET

In their death, rose petals
clasp their sweetest scent
in memoriam,
just like you . . . .

In memory and love to each: brother, father, son, husband

BACK PORCH TALKS

. . .with the lovelorn granddaughter

Darlin', you don't lose your faith.
You just don't know how
to deal with it sometimes.
About the time you really
start to lose your way,
a true angel once again
takes you by the hand,
and shows you the path
back to love.
Yes, Dear, I love you, too.

turned the right direction,
we are magnets, blessed from heaven.
